Canadore unveils fall semester plans

Canadore College has unveiled its plans for the fall semester.

“The health and safety of our employees and students have always been our priority, and those standards continue to guide us as we make plans for the fall semester,” said Canadore President George Burton.

The college plans on offering as many courses remotely via Information and Communication Technology tools as possible.

Officials say courses that cannot be delivered fully remotely will be offered through a blended model with a combination of electronic and online media and face-to-face teaching.  Those courses where remote delivery is not possible will be offered entirely through in-class instruction. Program-specific plans as well as important and beneficial information on the various support services available at the College will be communicated to students shortly with continuous updates to follow as needed and when available.

According to officials, Canadore has been delivering some courses this way already for the past 20 years. As many as 500 students partake in courses this way every year.

However, reopening the campuses is not off the table according to Burton. The college will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and will follow the provincial government’s guidance when it comes to reopening.

“We remain committed to the principles of student success and program excellence that Canadore is known for, regardless of how the program instruction will be provided,” said Burton. “If conditions continue to improve in the province, we may look forward to welcoming a limited number of students and employees to our campuses as early as July and increased numbers by September.”
