Province still mulling over return to in-class learning

The COVID-19 Variant of Concern (VOC) from India is having an impact on the government’s decision involving a return to in-class learning.

Vic Fedeli, Nipissing MPP, says the VOC is here in Ontario.

“It’s more dangerous, it’s more contagious and that has made a real divide in the medical community when it comes to schools,” said the MPP. “We’re taking a couple of extra days, we’re continuing to consult with the experts, we want to get this right.”

He says they’ll make a decision once all the feedback is received.

“I would love to see the students back in school,” Fedeli says, pointing out he knows the local medical officer of health and the health community in North Bay want to see the students back in school, too.

“If there’s ever an opportunity for regionalization it would be in this, this would be a good example.  I continue to be a loud voice at the table but it’s this divide in the medical community that has us very concerned,” he says.

Premier Doug Ford penned a letter to doctors last week asking for their opinion on whether schools should reopen before the provincial stay-at-home order expires on Wednesday.
