Officials with the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) say water content in the snow is now at its highest level of the season in our area.
However, they add the 147.3 mm measurement is comparable to last year.
The latest snow survey shows snow depth was up nearly 10 cm, compared to the last survey on March 9, to an average of 49 cm at all three measuring stations. Snow water equivalence is up nearly 40 mm in that same time frame.
“The snow and rain event over the weekend has led to increased snow depth and water content across all monitoring sites,” says Angela Mills, Water Resources Specialist. “Although snow depth has been gradually declining since reaching its seasonal peak on March 2, the amount of water contained within the snowpack is now at its highest level of the season.”
Snow depth and water content are measured at locations in North Bay, Corbeil and Chisholm as part of NBMCA’s Flood Forecasting and Warning Program.
