City man charged after break-in and fire

The North Bay Police Service has charged a 34-year-old city man with break and enter to commit arson.

Police say in the late morning of May 30, a person forced their way into a residence in the area of Martin Street and Lakeshore Drive.

When officers arrived, a fire was reported inside with city fire crews responding and putting out the fire.

They say the accused was located on the property and arrested without incident.

“This incident had the potential to escalate quickly,” says Inspector McFarlane. “Thanks to the rapid response of our officers and North Bay Fire and Emergency Services, the fire was brought under control quickly and the accused was taken into custody without incident.”

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
