Tenant charged after estimated $90,000 worth of damage to residential unit

The North Bay Police Service has arrested a tenant after reports of significant property damage to a residential unit.

Police say they received a report last Friday of a person threatening to harm a property owner and damage property at a multi-unit residence in the 500 block of Main Street East.

They say the investigation found the residence sustained about $90,000 worth of damage that appeared to compromise the structural integrity of the building.

Along with a charge of ‘occupant injuring building’, a 36-year-old man is also charged with uttering threats.

“The Patrol Section conducted a thorough investigation and took appropriate steps in response to the significant damage sustained to the property and threats made against the property owner,” says Insp. Scott MacFarlane. “Incidents like this undermine community safety and can have a lasting impact on neighbours and property owners.”

The accused was arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.
