HomeNewsUPDATED: Freezing Rain Warning Ends

UPDATED: Freezing Rain Warning Ends

Update: The Freezing Rain Warning has ended, as of approximately 5:00am Friday, according to Environment Canada. Up to 5 cm of snow is expected this morning, with the snowfall continuing throughout the afternoon and evening before tapering off late Friday.

Original post from Thursday afternoon:

Environment Canada reports the special weather statement has been replaced by a freezing rain warning for the North Bay area and snowfall warnings are no longer expected to be needed.

Freezing rain is expected overnight and tomorrow morning. Rain will change to freezing rain overnight then change to snow later Friday morning.

This precipitation is associated with a major weather system from the Gulf of Mexico that is tracking northward and expected to affect Northeastern Ontario tonight and Friday.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
