Yachmenev joins teammates as a weekly NOJHL star

Another week and another weekly star for the Powassan Voodoos.

This week, Tomas Yachmenev earns the honour. The son of former NHLer and North Bay Centennials standout, Vitali Yachmenev, Tomas had a big week for the Junior “A” club.

At the NOJHL showcase, “Yach” collected the game-winning goal late against the Blind River Beavers in a narrow 2-1 victory for Powassan, and the next day he scored once more against the Espanola Express in a 5-2 victory.

Perhaps saving his best effort for when the Timmins Rock came to town on Saturday, Yachmenev recorded an assist before scoring the winner in a shootout to give Powassan the 4-3 victory.

Yachmenev joins former Voodoo Gabby Kioki, Greg Trudeau-Paquet, Parker Bowman, and goaltender Owen Say as the other weekly winners. Say also was named goaltender of the month for September.

In the top 20 weekly rankings across Canada, Powassan has moved up a spot to fourth in the country, while Timmins dropped from eight to #11 on the list. Blind River who was previously on the list at #19 dropped off, while the Hearst Lumberjacks gained an honourable mention.
