Three people were charged with stunt driving over the Thanksgiving Long Weekend by North Bay OPP after separate traffic stops on Highway 17 near Mattawa.
Provincial police say speeds ranged from 50 km/h to 63 km/h over the posted limit of 90 km/h, with one of the vehicles passing a police cruiser at the time.
Drivers charged include a 44-year-old resident of Petawawa, a 39-year-old from Kanata and an 18-year-old from Cornwall.
All three received an immediate 30-day driver’s licence suspension and their vehicles were impounded for 14 days.
The North Bay OPP says it continues to focus on aggressive driving and speeding, which remain leading contributors to serious and fatal collisions on Ontario roads.
They say excessive speed reduces a driver’s ability to react to changing road conditions, increases stopping distances, and significantly raises the risk of severe injury or death in the event of a collision.
