Voodoos add firepower to their blue line

The Powassan Voodoos continue to bring more firepower to their squad.

The team has announced the signing of offensive defenceman Dayton Murray. Murray is a Spruce Grove, Alberta product and scored 54 points in 31 games in the Greater Metro Junior A hockey league.

Murray played for the Temiscaming Titans last year and says he is looking forward to joining the Voodoos for the upcoming season.

He says the Voodoos organization has been very welcoming and supportive. He says joining the Voodoos will help him advance in hockey and strive to get to higher levels of play.

The Voodoos were the second highest scoring team in the entire NOJHL last year.

This despite the fact they had just one defenceman who was in the top 14 of that category. That was Nicky Grose who is graduating and not returning to the Voodoos this year.

Head Coach Scott Wray is expecting Murray will fill the offensive void Grose is leaving. Wray says they are looking forward to having a top offensive defenceman in the lineup for the upcoming season. He says last year they lacked a left handed power play defenceman and Murray fits that mold.

Wray says Murray will be relied upon not just for his offensive skills but his leadership capabilities as well. This is the third new player to join the Voodoos in the past week.

They signed Battalion draft pick and local product Tye Lindeman last week. As well, the Voodoos brought in Nick Siracuse in exchange for Ryan Theriault from the Timmins Rock a few days ago.
