Police say suspended driver attempted own roadside assistance

At 12:37am this morning, officers from the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 63 in the Township of Phelps.

When police arrived, they say they observed a vehicle stuck in a guardrail and a person using a jack attempting to remove it. Police began an investigation. The driver was arrested at the scene and brought to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

After the police investigation, a 47-year-old Phelps Township man was charged with the following:

  • Operation While Prohibited
  • Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance
  • Fail to Properly Wear Seat Belt
  • Careless Driving
  • Driving While Under Suspension
  • Drive Motor Vehicle, No Plate

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear. He has a date to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on January 29, 2019.
