Harassment complaint leads to arrest

North Bay Police Service has arrested a man in relation to a harassment complaint.

Police say they received the complaint from a motorist who said they were being followed by a car on Highway 11 North from Powassan on Tuesday. The caller told police the driver was driving in an aggressive manner and was now following them through North Bay.

Around 8:30 pm, police performed a traffic stop on the Highway 11/17 bypass where they stopped the white van that police say had been tailing the caller. The lone occupant of the vehicle was arrested. Police discovered that the van had been stolen from Orillia the day before. Officers also found a loaded restricted firearm in the vehicle that was not used as part of the harassment complaint.

As a result, a 21-year-old from Orillia has been charged with:

  • One count of Criminal Harassment
  • One count of Careless Storage of a Firearm
  • One count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

The man is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police say the accused and the victim are not known to each other.
